Earth Day 2005
We will be tabling the Earth Day event in Tyler Park from 2-7 tomorrow, Friday, April 22. Come to get pamphlets and flyers about what's currently going on, join Friends of the Brick House, sign up to volunteer, or otherwise hang out.

We will have an assortment of weird, annoying, silly, political, and crazy buttons on sale for a $1 minimum donation each.

article in Courier-Journal
The Courier-Journal published a good article on Friday about our re-opening and the break-in.

Here are links to the recent news coverage:

LEO article

Louisville Cardinal article

They're both pretty good articles. There will be a Courier-Journal article this weekend and possibly some TV news coverage as well.

Break-in
I just learned that the Brick House was broken into last night. Our new copier/printer/fax was stolen, along with the most valuable bike workshop tools. All the locked doors were kicked in. They tried to steal the safe but couldn't remove it, thankfully.

We need to get an alarm system, but we can't afford it. There's nothing protecting us from being broken into again. Please consider joining Friends of the Brick House, or supporting us in other ways by setting up benefit shows, etc. We really need your help.

UPDATE:

Sadly, they also stole our PA and a volunteer's laptop.

LEO story, Keep Louisville Weird
The cover story of this week's LEO is about the Brick House. Stories will also be in the Courier-Journal and in the Louisville Cardinal.

Also, the Brick House is joining the Keep Louisville Weird campaign to promote independent and locally-run businesses and non-profits over their corporate-run counterparts.

Donations urgently needed
Just updated the Brick House donate page to make it easier to donate, and explain why we need donations in the first place. Um... we're struggling right now. One of our poor little volunteers subjected himself to a medical study just to earn enough money to pay the electric bill. Things won't always be this bad, especially in the summer when we're constantly having events, but for now we just need to pay our parking, mortgage, LG&E, water, phone, etc.

Go to the main page and click on donate if you can help, even a little, or just to see the updates to the page.

REQUIEM, EQUAL AND ULTRA, and EAT THIS MCKINLEY will perform at the Brick House on Friday April 8 starting at 6 pm for $5.

Also, if you have any carpentry skills, we need your help with some soundproofing.

And, our grand opening is April 15-17. We plan to have workshops during the day on April 16 & 17, so if you have skills or ideas to share, please get in touch. In the evenings we will have musical performances from local rock, rap and folk musicians. It should be a pretty good time.
